We always pass there whenever we go to the ICTP main building. Since I only have 2 more days here, I ate early and went there to see the Castello di Miramare. It was grand! I only have an hour to spare so I just took as many photos as I could. Medyo natakot lang ako kase may nadidinig ako nag -Ciao ng ilang beses and I couldn't see the person. Hahhaha. It is said that the castle is still being used as a summer house by a certain royal family. As expected, all 40+ of us are now close to one another. I am the designated photographer, and I am supposed to come up with an online album for the entire group. Dapat sinisingil ko ng one Euro bawat isa dito eh, hehe. A fellow participant from Africa calls me the lady with the camera and a mug of coffee. Hehehe. This is the first time ICTP offered this program, and I think there is already one scheduled next October. We stayed at the Adriatico Guesthouse where our lectures are also held. The sessions start at 9 am and ends at 6.30 pm daily. We are always tired after a long day but we are pampered instead with nice food and accomodation. We had extreme weather conditions today. It was raining when we arrived, then it went so sunny, then it rained again...with hale! St. Marco's palace was full of people, so imagine how difficult it was for us to find a place to avoid the rain. Nakakaloka. We got wet anyways but the sun shone that we managed to get dry because it was so hot again. Thanks to sunblock! Then everyone went back to the grounds. Good thing that Roberto, librarian from Trieste U, accompanied us. He always hike to the border twice a week. Imagine that! The village is really quiet and small, and the houses are so cute. It took us 4 hours to complete the hike. Before the border is a very small (30 houses) village. It is so beautiful! It is weird though that we only saw men in the village, all of them fixing the roofs of their houses. But gorgeous men, haaha. Weird. We would love to reach the first village of Slovenia but the weather is getting bad, and the path is toooooooo much steep. My weak left knee couldn't just make it any higher. Para kaming mga pinakawalang kalapati when we we had our gelatos and we were just so energized while touring the city. The city is lovely. If only I have a better lense and flash, i should have taken better photos, especially the castle. We're all tired but hyped by the loongggggg walk. Naburned lahat ng pasta na kinakain hehhe. We were still planning to reward ourselves with more gelato but we have run to catch the last bus to Girgiano. Walking around the campus and in the city can be tiring because of all the up-and-down hill paths. Good thing our room is facing the sea, and we have a veranda to watch the sun set.The sunset is awesome. A lot of us has found taking these photos as our relaxing activity after a long day of lectures (9am-6.30 pm). My constant photography partner is Leslie Chan from the U of Toronto. He would always look for me during dinnertime so that we can get good photos of the sunset, since the sun would only start to set by 9 pm. Official photographer na nga ako ng class, ahahaaha. And of course, the sea is also perfect. Almost every morning, I would go down by the marina to take photos of the yacths. Emang, pili ka pagbalik ko, hehe. I have to ask questions in a mix of my rusty spanish and college italian, hahaah. Hirap magbiyahe mag-isa. But thankfully, I arrived here after a very adventurous trip: delayed flights to Amsterdam and Venice; barely sleeping in Venice airport (because there are no more bus and train rides when I arrived almost midnight, so I have to wait ti 6 am); buying bus and train tickets, finding those small yellow boxes to punch my tickets, looking for the right bin stations and bus numbers.. It is hot here, but the view is all woth it. This is a view from our room yesterday before it rained...at 7 pm! Medyo di pa adjusted ang body clock ko because i'm already awake at 2 am here. Full sched and full meals. Lots of geeky students. One of the participants is also a librarian from Alexandria library in Egypt! Cool!!! I made it to the Summer batch of 2008. (Unless me dark forces pa na pumigil, hhahaha). My UPSLIS friends would fully understand why this would mean a lot, hehehe. Sometimes in our struggle to finish our thesis/research we forgot that we're actually finishing a degree (wow, lalim, hehe). 3 of the total X graduate study years were spent for my thesis. Pero come to think of it, nasa "normal" situtation pa naman ako compared to other struggling graduate students of UP, hehhe. Ilang Christmas, Holy Week and holiday breaks ko kapiling ang aking paper. I have my share of "faults" for the delay, but for the rest na out of my control, dinaan ko na ang sa dasal. Maraming dasal!!! Nauna ko pa nga na ipresent ang paper ko sa South Africa kaysa sa thesis panel ko. I got accepted as speaker for the 21st International CODATA (International Council for Science: Committe on Data for Science and Technology) Conference. I already forgot what paper I submitted to them, hehe. CODATA happens to be the main source for my thesis; that's how I learned about this conference. Weird, because just yesterday I decided to visit the conference site, just thingking if there are updates. Then last night I thought of going to Ukraine! I think inaantok na ako nun. Haha.
