Blog EntryParli ingelse?Jul 7, '08 11:52 PM
for everyone
This is the basic question I have to ask during my travel to Trieste. I have to ask questions in a mix of my rusty spanish and college italian, hahaah. Hirap magbiyahe mag-isa. But thankfully, I arrived here after a very adventurous trip: delayed flights to Amsterdam and Venice; barely sleeping in Venice airport (because there are no more bus and train rides when I arrived almost midnight, so I have to wait ti 6 am); buying bus and train tickets, finding those small yellow boxes to punch my tickets, looking for the right bin stations and bus numbers.. It is hot here, but the view is all woth it. This is a view from our room yesterday before it rained...at 7 pm! Medyo di pa adjusted ang body clock ko because i'm already awake at 2 am here. Full sched and full meals. Lots of geeky students. One of the participants is also a librarian from Alexandria library in Egypt! Cool!!! No tv here in the room but there's one in the TV room downstairs, na laging walang tao :) Mukhang kelangan ko pang tanungin yung tv ng "parli inglese?" kase di ko siya ma-operate, hahaha. Kian is happy with the photos, :D

Blog EntryI survived! Graduate na ako :)Jun 26, '08 12:55 AM
for everyone
Friends, allow me to take this opportunity to share with you  how glad I am,  because finally, I'm done with my thesis (and my masters degree!). I made it to the Summer batch of 2008. (Unless me dark forces pa na pumigil, hhahaha). My UPSLIS friends would fully understand why this would mean a lot, hehehe. Sometimes in our struggle to finish our thesis/research we forgot that we're actually finishing a degree (wow, lalim, hehe). 3 of the total X graduate study years were spent for my thesis. Pero come to think of it, nasa "normal" situtation pa naman ako compared to other struggling graduate students of UP, hehhe. Ilang Christmas, Holy Week and holiday breaks ko kapiling ang aking paper. I have my share of "faults" for the delay, but for the rest na out of my control, dinaan ko na ang sa dasal. Maraming dasal!!! Nauna ko pa nga na ipresent ang paper ko sa South Africa kaysa sa thesis panel ko. At least I am relieved that I will not bring this to Italy when I leave on the 5th :)

Thank you, thank you sa lahat. (Ok parang nagiging acknowledgement page na ito sa thesis ko, hehe) This is the birthday gift that I prayed to receive this year. (Did I tell you that my birthday will be on the 4th of July? hahaha, tripping! Gifts are welcome already, hahahaha.)

Blog EntryInvitation to join UPLSAA Official Mailing listJun 25, '08 10:52 PM
for everyone

Dear Fellow Alumni,

This is to inform you that the UP Library Science Alumni Association (UPLSAA) has decided to create a permanent official mailing list for all alumni of the UP School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS). This is in line with the plan of the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) to create a consortium of all UPAA chapters’ official mailing lists. Some of you may not be aware that there are a number of UPLSAA-related mailing lists that were created by the previous UPLSAA board/officers. So we believe that it is time to have just one official mailing list for UPLSAA.

In this light, may we invite you to support this project by joining our mailing list. If you have a Yahoo e-mail account, you may go directly to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uplsaa-mailinglist/ to join. Or you may send your name and e-mail address to uplsaa@yahoo.com so we could send you an invite. We are also seeking your support by posting this information to other library-related mailing lists that you are part of or forwarding this to fellow alumni you are in contact with.

Our aim here is to consolidate all of our alumni in one, official mailing list to facilitate better communication among our members. Let us use this venue solely to post and share UPSLIS and UPLSAA news, updates, and other library/professional related information and concerns. Thus, let us refrain from posting unrelated forwarded/spam messages.

We look forward to your continued support to UPSLIS and UPLSAA.

Sincerely,

UPLSAA Board 2008-09

Blog EntryWill my 3rd pit stop be in UKRAINE?Jun 17, '08 8:33 PM
for everyone
Totally weirdness. I got accepted as speaker for the 21st International CODATA (International Council for Science: Committe on Data for Science and Technology) Conference. I already forgot what paper I submitted to them, hehe. CODATA happens to be the main source for my thesis; that's how I learned about this conference.

Weird, because just yesterday I decided to visit the conference site, just thingking if there are updates. Then last night I thought of going to Ukraine! I think inaantok na ako nun. Haha. Same scenario before I got the news that I am going to Italy.  Weird. So imagine how speechless I am when I saw their e-mail. Though I still haven't read what's inside (downloading).

So the question is: will I be in Ukraine this October? I hope CODATA will be generous.

Blog EntryIt’s just one of those days…Apr 10, '08 7:00 AM
for everyone
It’s been lazy, sad and depressing. It’s one of those days that hits you hard and makes you curse life. Despite the ton of workload, here I am, staring blankly at my monitor. My library is a mess. I can't think of a title for the storybook. One of my thesis advisers doesn’t feel the urgency that I need to graduate. I’m (sort of) feeling tired of organizing events/activities for the
barkada. In a few weeks time, Emang will pass the torch to me as the new UPLSAA president, and I don’t know what to do for my term. We’re even short of possible candidates for the election.

I miss some friends, former officemates… (speaking of former officemates, Ammiel dropped by to give me a nice present. We just had a brief talk because he’s not feeling well. I’m just glad to see him.)

Sigh.

Blog EntryLast dance with EricMar 29, '08 2:07 AM
for everyone
I was shocked when Eric made an announcement  last Saturday that it will be our last class. I've been hearing that he's leaving before, hush hush pa lang. I've been attending his dance class for 2 (3?) years now. I can still recall how intimidating he looked when I first met him. But when he started to talk and dance, ay, BONGGA! We were all laughing when he once shared that he was a former member of San Beda HS basketball team. He's really tall and mestizo. He was a former member of Powerdance and he teaches pilates as well. I stopped attending the classes at Moro for some months last year because of my knee injury. But when my doctor told me na I can attend dance classes, I enrolled once again this January. "Nabuhay ka!", ang salubong sa akin when he saw me.  I love his classes because of the different dances that we do. His one hour class always, always is not enough, so we usually extend. Most of my classmates are mommies, and some of them call me bunso or  dalaga, because obviously, his saturday class is the "mommies class" :)

Good thing I was bringing my camera last saturday(weird!). So before anyone could react after his announcement, I was running to the locker room to get Kian, hehe.

I think some of us are holding our tears before the photo was taken. We'll surely miss him.

My next target lesson: AIKIDO! hehehe

Blog Entry...and they leave their books behindMar 26, '08 4:43 AM
for everyone

Dr. Anglo is leaving and asked me if he can bring some of his books for the library. I said yes, of course. More than a hundred books arrived and he helped me sort them. The books are a combination of titles on various topics: environmental science, science fiction, philosophy, humor, even sewing for dummies.

It’s always been like this. Almost always, I can expect books (and files!) from our research staff whenever they leave. Same thing happens when someone arrives from a conference or training. They always bring something for me. The real problems come after. Sorting, where to place them, disposing, etc. I laughed when Doc Anglo gave up after a few minutes of helping me sort the books. “Ay, ikaw nang bahala. Ang hirap pala!” He’ll pick a book, drop it, then picks it again. Separation anxiety? Hehe.

Marami na rin nilang umalis. And it seems that I couldn’t really get used to it. Every time I sign their clearance forms, I couldn’t help but imagine what is it like when it is my time to leave. Of course, I know I won’t probably leave my childrens' books behind. I’d probably leave my copy of ISAD(G) and Collecting museum pieces. :)

No, I’m not leaving. Not that I know.

Ang harsh ng title 'no? hahhha. But this made my day. I saw a copy of this book in my brother's room. Wala nang paalam paalam, kinuha ko na lang! Asteeg! I wasn't aware na may 3rd book na pala (anong klase ba akong fan!...:)

Like Pugad Baboy, i love the style and humor of Kikomachine. :)

Heto at makitawa na rin tulad ko. Eksena sa Lib. Mala-GenRef at SocSci, hheehe.
